Kenshin 95 -End

Filed under: Rurouni Kenshin — Ren @ 9:59 am

Well well, I finally made it to the end of Rurouni Kenshin. I agree with so many others that the third season did not surpass the second, it didn’t even come close to meeting it in quality. But…

…what kept me watching were those small moments between Kenshin and Kaoru that let you know how they felt about each other.

I honestly wished they had ended the series with Kenshin and Kaoru finally openly admitting their feelings for each other, and I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t. However, when I think about it more I can compare their relationship in a small way to Mulder and Scully from the X-files. Because you cared for them so much, and you knew how they felt about each other even tho they never said it out loud, you came to quietly cheer them on from the sidelines. And then, tiny gestures like in this episode where Kaoru puts her hand on Kenshin’s become so much more powerful.

I also watched the OVAs today. I have to say that I like them alot better. The art style was beautiful. They were mysterious, powerful, and more serious. The 2nd ova finally gave me what I had been craving - Kenshin and Kaoru together at last.

Swordfighting? Cool! A swordsman with a mysterious and painful past? Awesome! But when you get right down to it, I’m just a mushy romantic girl at heart.

This episode didn’t really feel like an ideal ending episode to me. I was hoping for something more. In fact, I found that everything after the Shishio arc was boring. The whole storyline just went wacko as they introduced european horse riders and some monks or something (can’t seem to remember exactly). Overall, I enjoyed this series, especially the first 60 or so eps :)

I agree on wanting something more. I also agree about everything after the Shishio arc being boring. The third season really didn’t follow the second well at all. I hear the third season didn’t follow the manga at all, which may be where the problem lies.

I heard the 2nd OVA wasn’t that good, despite having Kenshin and Kaoru together at last.

On the other hand, I absolutely loved the OVA with Kenshin and Tomoe. Unlike many other OVAs I’ve seen, they actually produced stunning art and animation, incorporating it with an excellent storyline and not to mention the wonderful acoustic score. The fighting scenes were just sheer brilliance. Easily one of my favourites. =)

I dunno what anyone else said about the 2nd OVA, but I loved it just as much as the first one.

I just bought the third season and must agree w/everyone else after watching it. Utterly disappointing! The ending scene gave me a little of the Kaoru/Kenshin action I was craving, but still left me w/wanting more. Is there supposed to be a season 4? And I only have the director’s cut of Samurai X, I haven’t watched it yet…so is it good?

    ehhh…
The second OVA was really frastrating, I really like tragedy but with happy endings. but the OVA ending - actually the whole OVA- was really tragic.

    What have you done writers!
